Visiting Student

Part 1: Requirements

Step 1:

New Users:

  1. Go to the application portal.
  2. Click Get Started.
  3. Complete and submit the Sign-Up form.
  4. Complete the steps below.

Step 2:

Complete Application:

  1. Log in to the application portal.
  2. Locate the "Visiting Student Application" under Available Applications.
  3. Click Apply.
  4. Fill in your information and click Continue.
  5. Review the application, Terms & Conditions, electronically sign the application, and click Submit.

Step 3:

Complete FAFSA Application:

  1. Go to the Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) website.
  2. Click Start New Form if you have not started one or click Access Existing Form if you have already started an application.

Step 4:

Obtain an Unemployed Person Job Training Form* (Tuition Waiver Program) and Employability Development Plan (EDP) from your local One-Stop Career Center. Find out how at the Department of Labor Workforce Development.

If you are matriculated at another college or university, contact your advisor to request an extensive list of courses that qualify towards your degree. If you are not currently matriculated at another college or university, schedule an appointment with the Office of Lifelong Learning to review course options and receive a Course Approval Form by emailing wintersession@newark.rutgers.edu or calling 973-353-5112. A list of courses must be presented to your local One-Stop Career Center.

Part 2: Certification

Step 1:

  1. Log in to the application portal.
  2. Locate the Unemployed Tuition Waiver (UTW) Certification Form in the Available Applications.
  3. Click Apply.
  4. Fill in your information and you must upload your Unemployed Person job Training form and Employability Form and the Employability Development Plan with your application.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Review the application, Terms & Conditions, electronically sign the application, and click Submit.

Step 2:

  1. You may only certify during the certification period.

Only certified students will be allowed to register for winter session courses (no exceptions).

Part 3: Registration & Payment

Step 1:

Registration

  1. Registration must be processed by a Registrar representative, and will takes place on the first day of the session, no exceptions.
  2. A Registrar representative will contact applicants to schedule a time to process their winter registration. Students will be contacted in the order that their documents were received.

Step 2: 

Term Bill

  • All students must pay any applicable course fees or health insurance charges that appear on their term bill. To view your bill and make payment visit Accessing your Term Bill.
